Two Sides of Provence: Lots of Art and Some Great Pizza!

Joseph and his wife Marybeth's venture into Provence is a testament to the beauty of immersive travel. From the historic streets of Avignon to the tranquil beauty of Pont du Gard, they explored the charm of Southern France.

Cooking Class in Avignon

A highlight of their journey was a hands-on cooking class in Avignon. This is  where they learned to craft traditional Provençal dishes under the guidance of local chef Gina Trevier.

In Avignon they stayed at Hotel d'Europe which was centrally located around several restaurants. They really enjoyed eating at Le Carré du Palais.

Painting Group in Provence

Their adventures weren't constrained to food. They delved into the world of art by joining a painting group in Vence, under the guidance of watercolorist Ginny Fergus. Here, they discovered the joy of painting amidst the Côte d'Azur's mesmerizing landscapes. This trip was definitely a fusion of art, culture, and natural beauty.

The couple's journey through Provence brought them face-to-face with history, art, and the joys of French cuisine. From exploring Matisse's Chapelle du Rosaire to tasting the region's exquisite culinary offerings, each moment was a step deeper into the heart of French culture.

In Gordes they stayed at Domaine les Martins and in Vence they stayed (and ate) at L'Auberge des Seigneurs

Practicalities of Travel through Provence

The episode also sheds light on the practical aspects of traveling in France. Navigating the narrow roads with a rental car is a challenge! And if you arrive at a location too late, perhaps you'll have to get some ice cream to hold you over.

Conclusion

This episode is not just a trip report; it's a nudge to explore, to immerse, and to embrace the multifaceted beauty of France. Listen to this episode as your gateway to the rich, layered experiences that Provence has to offer.
