Julie, her husband, and their two young boys embarked on a trip to Paris and Nice, making the most of their spring break. Their journey included cultural experiences, culinary delights, and plenty of family-friendly activities.

Fun in Paris with Kids

Julie and her family began their trip in Paris. They planned five nights in the city, aiming to soak up as much culture and history as possible. One of the highlights for her 11-year-old son, a ballet dancer, was attending a live performance at the Palais Garnier. The awe and excitement on his face made the experience unforgettable. Julie notes that the grandeur of the Palais Garnier exceeded their expectations, leaving a lasting impression on her sons.

The family also enjoyed a dinner cruise on the Seine with Bateaux Mouches. Julie's boys chose this over climbing the Eiffel Tower, preferring to see the iconic landmark from the river while enjoying a meal. Although high river levels diverted their route, the evening was magical, showcasing the beauty of Paris from a unique perspective.

Julie shares that Paris can be a culinary adventure for kids. Her younger son, a budding foodie, relished trying new foods. They indulged in French classics like escargot, steak frites, and chocolate mousse. Julie emphasizes the importance of exploring local boulangeries and restaurants to introduce children to diverse flavors.

The Jardin des Plantes in Paris

In addition to cultural and culinary experiences, the family visited the Jardin des Plantes. They spent a delightful morning at the Ménagerie, the zoo within the gardens. Julie's younger son, fascinated by rocks and minerals, enjoyed the museum exhibits. The Ménagerie offered unique animal encounters, adding an unexpected twist to their Paris itinerary.

Their Paris adventure also included a visit to Montmartre. They took a leisurely breakfast near the artists' square and had a portrait sketched of the boys. Exploring Montmartre's charming streets and sampling local treats made for a memorable day. The family also strolled through the Marais, appreciating its historical and cultural significance.

Julie tackled the challenge of taking her kids to the Louvre. Despite her older son's illness, they managed to explore the museum efficiently. They played a game where each child picked their favorite artwork in each gallery, fostering engagement and enjoyment. This strategy allowed them to appreciate the museum without feeling overwhelmed.

Moving on to Nice

The journey from Paris to Nice was smooth, with a scenic train ride adding to the adventure. Nice offered a different vibe, with sunny weather and a slower pace. The perfume-making class in Nice was a hit with the entire family. They created their own signature scents, an interactive and enjoyable experience.

One of Julie’s top recommendations in Nice is an olive oil tasting lunch. The owner’s passion and the unique flavors of various olive oils made for a delightful meal. They also took advantage of the hop-on-hop-off bus tour, which provided an easy way to explore the city and its surroundings.

Nice's beautiful weather allowed the family to enjoy outdoor activities. Julie appreciated the parks and playgrounds, perfect for kids to burn off energy. They also had a memorable dinner at a local seafood restaurant, where the chef's interaction added a personal touch.

Julie advises future travelers to check for closures and plan accordingly. They encountered a few unexpected closures but adapted their plans smoothly. She also recommends the Paris metro visitor pass for convenience.
